A meditation for happiness and compassion

CambodiaandThailand10 098Meditation is a wonderful way to calm the mind and bring it into a happy place.

People often get put off by it thinking you have to sit there and not think any thoughts at all. This is virtually impossible though as the mind is always wanting to think something. There are many different techniques to help you calm the mind though, to focus it and lead it to quietening down, or even just lead it to think more positively.

Following is a lovely Buddhist meditation for happiness and compassion, for your self and others. It is called Metta which means love.

Sit comfortably

Take a few long slow deep breaths to calm your body and mind.

Repeat:

May I be happy
May I be free from fear
May I be safe and protected

Then think of people you love and repeat:

May they be happy
May they be free from fear
May they be safe and protected

Then think of people you struggle to get on with, maybe someone you have had a falling out with:

May they be happy
May they be free from fear
May they be safe and protected

Then picture the whole world:

May they be happy
May they be free from fear
May they be safe and protected

You can repeat this as many times as you like.

Just try it and see how it feels.

Be Happy.
